UNIMED Board of Directors agrees on continuity and a new commitment to culture

The UNIMED Board of Directors met on July 24 in Rome.

Prof. Wail Benjelloun chaired the meeting, which was attended by the representatives of Universities of La Sapienza of Rome, Algiers, Cyprus, Cairo, An-Najah (Palestine), Lebanon, Rome International, Alexandria (Egypt), Saint Esprit de Kaslik (Lebanon) Tunis, Bogazici (Turkey), Aydin (Turkey), as well as by Marcello Scalisi, Director of UNIMED.Many significant points were raised during the meeting, such as the establishment of sub-networks for key thematic areas following the example of the Food and Water one, which was recently launched, the creation of a “Mediterranean Studies Centre” and other cultural projects dedicated to the memory of prof. Franco Rizzi, founder and Secretary General of UNIMED. Such initiatives include the “UNIMED Cup”, “Mediterraneo al Cinema” and the “UNIMED Award” at the International Venice Festival, which aim to promote Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and the different expressions of the social landscape of these multifaceted realities with arts and sports.The Board also discussed new strategies aimed at strengthening cooperation among the associated universities, and the role of UNIMED as the academic institution of reference for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
