“Intercultural trends in the Euro-Mediterranean region”: presentation and debate around the results of the Anna Lindh Report 2018 // Tampere, Finland, 4 June 2019

(Rome, 30 May 2019) “There is no clash of civilizations, there is only a clash of ignorance. To understand each other, we need to know each other. We need to respect our differences while finding what unites us” said Mrs Guigou, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) during the last General Assembly of UNIMED. The report “Intercultural trends and Social change in the Euro-Mediterranean region” prepared by ALF,  and particularly focused on this issue, will be presented during a joint event co-organised by UNIMED, Anna Lindh Foundation, Tampere University and Tampere Peace Research Institute. The event will take place in Tampere University, Main building, Lecture room A 08, on the 4th of  June 2019 at 14:00.

The report analyses the Intercultural trends in the Euro-Mediterranean region, featuring the outcomes of a research conducted in 13 Euro-Mediterranean countries. It investigates  the trends in the perceptions within the Region, particularly after the impact of conflicts, as well as in the broader context of globalization and immigration, and provides recommendations focusing on those areas which could bridge the gap in mutual perceptions, including education, culture and the media, as well as the creation of an instrument to measure the evolving values and attitudes of people in the Region, in accordance with the Groupe des Sages reflections.

This document, released in 2018 and already presented in Rhodes, Tunis, Rome and Amman, will be now debated in Finland at Tampere University next 4 June.

The event will feature the participation of Prof. Tuomo Melasuo, professor emeritus from the Tampere University and Prof. Konrad Pedziwiatr, professor at Cracow University of Economics and contributor to the Report and will be an occasion to disseminate the results of this report, and to foster debate between academia, civil society and experts.

You can follow the event as webinar in live streaming here.
