On June 24th, 2021 (10:00 to 11:30 am CEST) the First Thematic Webinar of the UNIMED SubNetwork on Transports & Logistics will take place.
Organised with Prof. Giuseppe Inturri, University of Catania, Coordinator of the SubNetwork, the webinar titled Mobility Management at MED Universities, will see the contribution of Prof. Matteo Colleoni, University Milano-Bicocca (Italy) – RUS, Prof. Maria Attard, University of Malta (Malta) and Prof. Khaled Al Sahili, University of An-Najah (Palestine).
Universities, similar to small cities, are characterized by a huge community of people with their own daily activities, residences, departments and leisure facilities. They are important nodes of mobility generation and attraction. Thousands of students and staff travel each day to reach their Universities sites.
This has a big impact on the urban transport system, on climate change and on the environment as well. Universities must have their own policy to reduce the impacts of staff and students mobility and the resources to deal with the policy implementation. Universities do not build and do not operate transport systems. So the only way to limit the impact of university mobility is trying to influence the behaviour of students and staff. This aspect can be accomplished through Transport Demand Management or Mobility Management, a demand-oriented approach to favour active mobility, transit ridership and shared mobility, while reducing the dependency from cars.
This webinar, organized in the framework of the UNIMED SubNetwork on Transports & Logistics, will focus on the experience on Mobility Management policies and implementation at Universities in some countries of the Mediterranean Region, also extending the gaze to wider objectives of Sustainable Development.
