Student Mobility in Morocco: Learn more on the Erasmus Moroccan Network

In the framework of the DIRE-MED Erasmus + project, UNIMED organized, on the 1st of July, with the Erasmus Student Network and the Erasmus Moroccan Network and with the support of the National Erasmus Office in Morocco and the University Abdelmalek Essaadi, an online event aiming at Building synergies between IROs and student organisations fostering student mobility in Morocco.

DIRE-MED aimed at strengthening International Relations Office staff capacities in organizing mobilities, creating a framework for facilitating students and staff exchanges and improving the cooperation between universities and society at large.

Students have become key actors in the internationalization of the university, and UNIMED encourages, whenever possible, to strengthen students representation and involvement of students and dialogue with University representatives. As recorded by Marcello Scalisi, UNIMED Director, the cooperation with ESN is in this sense important to support students organization in South-Med countries. For Kostis Giannidis, ESN president, this kind of initiative is also a way to bring closer students from the two shores of the Mediterranean.

This training, organized at Moroccan level to strengthen the recently created Erasmus Moroccan Network, was the occasion to share ESN experience, to reflect on EMN development and articulation with IRO offices of the Moroccan universities for improving students mobility and participation in university and in local life. 35 participants, students, students’ organisations representatives and International relations office staff from 10 Moroccan Higher Education institutions had the chance to share their perspectives from opposite sides, reflecting together on the meaning of “internationalization”, bringing up their respective needs. Strengthening institutional collaborations, widening networks, sharing and spreading information between universities and between universities and students, making opportunities well known, systematising procedures are just some of the needs this path will focus its efforts on.
