Biography of the Author

Vittoria Riccardi holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Roma Tre, Italy. For her final dissertation, she carried out a study on the Italian foreign policy towards the Mediterranean countries during the 1950s, with a focus on its role in the Suez crisis. Willing to deepen her understanding of the migration crisis and the hardships that migrants face while crossing the Mediterranean, she worked in the Leros Island Hot Spot with Echo100plus, an Austrian foundation that provides legal aid and educational projects to refugees. Since September 2018, she is enrolled in the double Master Degree “crossing the Mediterranean towards investment and integration” (MIM), jointly offered by Università Ca Foscari of Venice and Université Paul Valery of Montpellier. In the framework of the complementary training, she spent three months in Tunisia, where she carried out a field study research and attended an Arab language course at the University of Sousse. She also conducted a field study on the cultural scenario in the aftermath of the 2011 Revolution. She is interested in the implementation of sustainable development projects in the social and cultural area in the Mediterranean basin with a focus on grassroots movements.
