#Erasmus Days: Mediterranean Mobility Matters

Mediterranean Mobility Matters

October 15, 2020, 15.00 – 16.10 CET on Zoom

Organised by UNIMED in collaboration with DIRE-MED and EduBioMed projects partners.

Webinar description

The Erasmus+ Programme has helped millions of young people and education professionals to travel abroad, study, and gain experience and skills. It has completely transformed European universities as well as European society. Since 2015, the Erasmus+ Programme has widened participation to the Southern Mediterranean countries,  paving the way for making international cooperation a priority.

In 2011, UNIMED launched an on-line petition aimed at promoting the international dimension of the Erasmus Programme towards the Southern Mediterranean universities, that collected around 6.000 signatures from 55 countries and was delivered to the EU Commissioner for Education and Culture in January 2012. Later in December 2017, UNIMED launched an on-line petition for a Mediterranean Erasmus Generation,  to strengthen the International Credit Mobility dimension of the Erasmus+ Programme, to support a regional mobility scheme (South-South Mobility), to continue supporting the integration of refugee students and scholars in the Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education Area, and to reinforce capacity building actions to develop, share and transfer good practice and innovative approaches in the field of education, training and youth.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an abrupt stop of student and youth mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean, as well as globally. The long-term effects of this crisis on education and mobility are undeniable, and universities are exploring new forms of digital education and new approaches to complement and reinforce traditional forms of mobility.

During this webinar we will discuss the importance of the mobilities and exchanges in their several forms, the impact of the pandemic on student mobility, and ways to support Higher Education Institutions in the Euro-Mediterranean region in responding to the emerging needs of their education systems.
