The UNIMED General Assembly 2024 will be hosted by Istanbul Aydin University, Turkey, on October 23rd and 24th.
The UNIMED General Assembly represents an important yearly event where our rectors, presidents and their representatives meet to exchange views and to determine policy for UNIMED, setting the stage for a full and rich year of initiatives, activities and conferences that shape the academic calendar around
the Mediterranean.
At the same time, we cannot ignore what is happening in the Mediterranean region and affecting its neighbours. Unfortunately, the region is facing several conflicts and political instability and we, collectively, call ourselves on what the universities can do to change such critical situations.
The right of many university students to continue their education path is under risk. At the same time academic freedom is living a critical moment worldwide.
These are the main reasons why we decided to title the UNIMED Assembly of this year “BOOSTING UNIVERSITY ALLIANCES FOR PEACE AND ACADEMIC FREEDOM”.
In 2025 we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the “Barcelona process” and we should start reflecting on what has been done during these 30 years and trying to define the next steps of our cooperation, imagining that Universities can guide the process for a better, inclusive and open Mediterranean region.
The Assembly is a two-day event where we welcome around 200 people from our member universities and institutional partnerships.
