The UN Secretary-General will be convening a Food Systems Summit in September 2021 as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The Summit calls on all actors to work together to transform the way the world produces, consumes and thinks about food. It is a solutions-summit for everyone everywhere – a people’s summit. It is also a solutions summit that will require everyone to take action to transform the world’s food systems. Building up to the Summit was a Pre-Summit in Rome, hosted by the Government of Italy, from 26–28 July 2021.
Guided by five Action Tracks, the Pre-Summit brought together youth, farmers, indigenous peoples, civil society, academics, researchers, the private sector, policy leaders and ministers of agriculture, environment, health, nutrition and finance, among other players. The three-day gathering aimed to deliver the latest evidence-based and scientific approaches from around the world, launch a set of new commitments through coalitions of action and mobilize new financing and partnerships.
