During the 4th edition of the UNIMED WEEK IN BRUSSELS celebrated on the 19th-21st of March, 2019 in Brussels one of the key moments of the first day of activities has been the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the International Erasmus Student Network organisation and UNIMED.
Through this MoU, signed by Prof. Francisco Matte Bon, UNIMED President and Mr. Joao Pinto, President of the Erasmus Student Network, UNIMED has decided to give the right importance to the ultimate beneficiaries of its cooperation actions by taking as an interlocutor the biggest European students organisation. The aim of the MoU is to establish a framework to promote and foster the cooperation between the two parties, through mutual promotion, events, exchange of expertise in favour of the youth community involved in the activities of both ESN and UNIMED.
Following this MoU, UNIMED will organise the session “UNIMED meets students in collaboration with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN)” which will be held during the UNIMED General Assembly on the 25th of October 2019 from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm in the Jean El Hawa Auditorium of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik.
As the recent events have demonstrated, both in Northern and Southern Mediterranean countries, students are actors of university and societal life. Since the beginning, UNIMED has been aiming at giving them opportunities, by strengthening their academic and non-academic development, by supporting their mobility mostly through Erasmus programmes, by working with their universities for improving their employability. Giving to the current and future generations, the tools and the space for increasing dialogue and cooperation within the Region is one of our responsibilities.
To enhance our understanding of students’ expectations and to define together how we can better support them, UNIMED decided to give them the floor. This workshop, involving students and staff from the two shores of the Mediterranean and a National Erasmus agency coordinator, will be the occasion to talk about students’ network, mobility – South to North, North to South, South to South, and empowerment.
It will also be the occasion to recall the importance of endorsing the Petition for a Erasmus Mediterranean generation that UNIMED launched during its General Assembly in Paris, in 2017. The results of this Petition will be presented to the European Parliament, in March 2020, during the UNIMED WEEK in Brussels.
