Next March 15 and 16, 2023, UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union organizes its General Assembly, hosted by the University of Granada and under the patronage of the Union for the Mediterranean and Ayuntamiento de Granada and sponsored by Diputación de Granada.
The UNIMED General Assembly represents an important yearly event where rectors, presidents and their representatives meet to exchange views and to determine policy for UNIMED, setting the stage for a full and rich year of initiatives, activities and conferences that shape the academic calendar around the Mediterranean. The two-day event is also enriched by the participation of representatives of international organisations, government officials, students, influential contributors to the cultural and political spheres and representatives of NGOs.
The first day is opened by Pilar Aranda Ramírez, Rector of the University of Granada, Francisco Matte Bon, UNIMED President and Hmaid Ben Aziza, UNIMED Secretary General together with Institutional representatives of the Regional Ministry for Universities, Research and Innovation and of the Granada City Hall. The openings will be followed by Victor Jesús Medina Flórez, Vice-Rector for Outreach and Heritage of the University of Granada with a contribution on the role of the universities in preserving cultural heritage.
Maria Cristina Russo, Director Global Approach & International Partnerships in R&I, European Commission, Alvaro Albacete, Deputy Secretary General / Higher Education & Research of the Union for the Mediterranean, Juan Rayón Gonzales, President of Erasmus Student Network (ESN) are only some of the other key speakers taking the floor in the Assembly.
They will stress the importance of international cooperation, higher education and research, the role of the students as an important actor to discuss with about the academic and regional priorities which also include security and peace.
Besides, the UNIMED General Assembly is an opportunity for the associates to participate in thematic sessions on green innovation and employability, digital and open education, internationalization and University Alliances, and specific European Commission programmes.
This year, the Assembly will also have the ambitious goal of collecting indications and proposals in order to contribute to the work of the first Union for the Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Higher Education that will take place in Morocco in November 2023.
150 participants from 19 countries are registered to attend the event.
UNIMED is a network of universities founded in 1991 counting 150 university members from 24 countries from the Mediterranean Region and beyond.
