Employability of PhD students, Entrepreneurship, Speed networking and more…between Marseille and Barcelona!

Marseille and Barcelona hosted the last two field visits and training on entrepreneurship and professional integration of university students that took place respectively from last 13 to 17 November and from 28 to 30 November addressed to the staff of the partner university career centres and academic body from Morocco, Tunisia and Lebanon. The Marseille and Barcelona training visits are part of the training cycle of the RESUME project aiming at improving teaching skills on entrepreneurship for the university teachers who will delivery their course on entrepreneurship skills to the Master students of their universities on next February 2018 for a length of 4 months. The course would be a pilot project for the universities partners of RESUME.

Gilbert BOUGI, Founder and Educational Manager of Pépite Paca Ouest and Head of Master in “Business Creation” and the one “Becoming an Entrepreneur” from Aix Marseille University, together with Lionel MALARDE, from IRCE – Regional Institute for the Creation and Development of Enterprises trained the participants on the EU entrepreneurial spirit giving some examples and elements on entrepreneurship by presenting the Master on Business Creation and Entrepreneurship. Pierre ALZINGRE, Head of the DE “Becoming an Entrepreneur” of the Faculty of Sciences of Aix Marseille University brought his experience to the participants too. The training has also seen the participation of the external expert Theodore A. Khoury, Associate Professor of Management and Strategy at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon who taught how to teach entrepreneurship starting from the business strategy, defining the concept of entrepreneurship and through an overview of strategic management frameworks that support the challenges of entrepreneurship.
Moreover the Marseille training has been organized in the framework of the AMU-Entreprise week organised by Aix Marseille University on 16 and 17 November where the participants had the opportunity to participate in the 5th edition of the 36h Chrono of business creation promoted by the Pôle Pépite PACA Ouest of Aix Marseille University. Workshops on business canvas and business plan, marketing analysis, sales strategy, developing virtual business project have characterized the training week.

To conclude the training on entrepreneurship skills, Jaume VALLS, Director of Barcelona Institute of Emprendoria – University of Barcelona and Pere JUAREZ, Professor and educational volunteer and  President Alumni UB Innovation and Competitiveness from University of Barcelona took a series of lectures  on the topic of entrepreneurship in Barcelona University as well prof. Juarez who delivered a “Lego Serious Play: INNOVATION FOR BUSINESS GROWTH”. Netmentora has also been presented by Beatriz DE VICENTE, Director of Netmentora as good practice for its experience in promoting entrepreneurship and employability at the University of Barcelona and in Catalonia.

The Barcelona training has seen also a special session with enterprises to learn “How to show your talent in a “Speed Networking session” and participants had the occasion to attend a 2-minute personal interviews between companies and students’ candidates. To conclude two workshop of “Games of Talents” have been organised by Talent Hub to teach participants how to teach Team building, communication skills, talent development. The

Barcelona University has also organised a field visit at Barcelona Activa, an organization responsible for boosting economic policies and local development to ensure a better quality of life for the Barcelona citizens by promoting employmentencouraging entrepreneurship and offering support to companies from the perspective of the plural economy.

Marseille has hosted the 5th Thematic Conference of RESUME organized by UNIMED as Project Leader and in collaboration with Aix Marseille University and Ville de Marseille, aiming at providing HEI staff with the necessary skills and to open dialogue and cooperation between different stakeholders (HEIs, companies and political authorities) in the common challenge of increasing employability young graduates. The topic of this 5th Conference was “Employability of PhD Students” and therefore partners have been shared their good practices and lessons learned on that such as:
– Professional training modules set up within the Doctoral Colleges or Doctoral Schools;
– Tool for promoting regional doctoral training via, for example, regional promotion agencies;
– Organization of annual meeting of PhD students – Companies;
– Creation of a doctoral contract allowing greater employability of PhD students in different sectors: research, training in research (teaching), consulting or valorization of research.
