On February 13th, 2025, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Libya and UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The recognition of the importance of strengthening collaboration in areas of shared interest and the willingness to further deepen cooperation are the key aspects for sealing this agreement marking, in this way, a new milestone in academic and scientific collaboration.
Currently 25 Libyan Universities are members of the UNIMED Network and the MoU aims to foster joint initiatives in higher education, scientific research, development, training, and knowledge transfer between Libyan universities and all the UNIMED members.
Through this official collaboration, both parties will work together on scientific research projects, organize joint conferences and seminars, promote student and researcher exchange programs, and support the development of postgraduate programs.
The partnership also emphasizes capacity-building initiatives for Libyan universities, the exchange of academic expertise, and facilitates access to international scholarship opportunities for Libyan students. Furthermore, it encourages cooperation in publishing scientific materials and strengthening internationalization efforts within Libya’s higher education sector.
Marcello Scalisi, UNIMED Director, stated that the signature on this MoU represents the formalisation of a collaboration built on shared values and a common vision for advancing higher education and scientific research through international cooperation.
