International exchanges are increasingly becoming key aspects of the institutional strategy of universities and higher education institutions. Student, staff mobility and research cooperation are priority actions to increase the level of university internationalization, considered by most rankings as one of the most important factors in the quality of education.
Aware of the importance of mobility and with the desire to offer its members the possibility of creating new valuable partnerships or strengthening existing ones, UNIMED is more and more involved in the mobility sector.
We are glad to announce that, for the 9th edition of the COMMO (COoperation in the Mediterranean and Western Balkan through MObility of Students and Staff) project, which will cover the period 2024-2027, UNIMED has achieved a very important result as it has been granted by the Italian National Agency INDIRE a budget for 537 scholarships distributed among the Region 1 (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo), the Region 3 (Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Libya), the Region 7 (Iraq and Yemen) and the Region 9 (Mauritania). The cooperation with the Middle East in the framework of the COMMO project is an absolute novelty and, for the first time, all the Regions of the UNIMED network will be involved in the mobility exchanges, representing our biggest achievement ever.
Supporting students in acquiring skills and abilities to develop their academic profile and open more job opportunities; fostering a deeper understanding of the cultures of the Southern Mediterranean and the Balkans, providing University students and staff with the opportunity to create international partnerships, to participate actively in the social life of their country and to the development of a Euro Mediterranean identity are only some of the specific objectives of the COMMO project.
The COMMO project, co-funded by the European Union in the framework of the KA171 of the Erasmus+ Programme, aims at contributing to the improvement of the international dimension of higher education institutions by promoting mobility experiences between the Italian universities which are part of the COMMO consortium, coordinated by UNIMED, and institutions in the Southern Mediterranean countries, the Western Balkans and the Middle East.
We hope that UNIMED, in the coming years, will be able to involve an increasing number of universities in mobility exchanges, in order to guarantee the strengthening of international activities with our members and to expand the UNIMED network further.
