On the 3rd of August 2021, a new online conversation was convened within the framework of the UNIMED SubNetwork on eLearning and Open Education series of Online Conversation on Digital Education about “Digital literacy and digital habits of students and teachers “. The topic was introduced by Dr. Maha Bali , Associate Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and editor at the journal Hybrid Pedagogy, and blogs at Reflecting Allowed .

Throughout the 90 minutes conversation, attended by a small group of professors from the two shores of the Mediterranean, the presentation was reinforced by different perspectives and approaches of Digital, Media, and Information Literacy.

As part of her presentation approach, Dr. Bali emphasized the importance of having an interactive communication that will serve in strengthening the understanding of the topic.

She shed light on her approach ‘Feminist approach: challenges hierarchy and teacher-student authority’ by giving examples from the Egyptian context. She also tackled critical pedagogy aspects, thereby providing a solid evidence-based case study of Egypt and recommendations presented in the study.

This presentation paves the way for concrete actions, leveraging the lessons learned from the country-level experiences and the common ground at the regional level, on which future education can build upon.

The series of these online conversations will continue, and next month Katherine Wimpenny, Coventry University will present ‘Inclusive online pedagogies’ on September 7, 11: 00-12: 30 CET
