“Sardegna ForMed: the Mediterranean community” is the third episode of the podcast Intrecci – Creare comunità insieme (Intrecci: creating communities together).

In this episode, the journalist Elisabetta Cibinel focuses on the Sardegna ForMed project through the voices of Aicha Mechria and Nesrine Chemli, former Tunisian students who participated in the mobility programme. She also interviewed Marcello Scalisi, Director of UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union and Rossella Porcheddu, coordinator of the Design, Development and Innovation area of the Fondazione di Sardegna.

Sardegna ForMed is an initiative supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna and UNIMED that promotes Mediterranean integration through university cooperation and exchanges.

Launched in 2015, from an idea of the late Prof. Franco Rizzi, UNIMED Founder and Former Secretary General, the project involves students from Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, offering them the opportunity to attend master’s degree courses at the sardinian universities of Cagliari and Sassari, with the aim of – collaboratively – strengthening academic cooperation and creating a community of students and researchers that can address the challenges of the Mediterranean.

The episode tells the challenges that Aicha and Nesrine had to face during their academic path in Italy, but also their feeling of integration in the university and local community through the university that welcomed them.

As Rossella Porcheddu states, “Sardegna ForMed provides an opportunity for enrichment not only for participating students but for the entire Sardinian university system. Local students also benefit from relationships with foreign university students through dialogue and cooperation”.
