On November 25-27, 2024 UNIMED participated as an official partner in the 10th edition of Rome MED Dialogues.
Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), this annual international conference aims to discuss a positive agenda on the Mediterranean, gathering together international stakeholders, academia and civil society organisations.
UNIMED was actively involved in the Youth Policy Lab “Navigating the Climate Crisis: Mediterranean Youth in Action”, aimed at supporting the development of youth-led solutions on the climate crisis in the wider Mediterranean by acting as a global showcase for youth-led ideas around four main dimensions: youth participation in climate decision-making processes, inequalities and inclusiveness, the role of start-ups and innovative minds, and technology and innovation.
The participants were welcomed by Franco Bruni and Francesco Rocchetti, respectively ISPI President and Secretary General, and by Kherieh Rassas, UNIMED President, who underlined the importance of the youth’s role in addressing the climate crisis in the Mediterranean
Together with OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), UNIMED coordinated the working group on inequalities and inclusiveness, gathering 6 young professionals from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia who addressed the topics of water scarcity and of governance and climate action.
During the closed-door workshop in Rome, they fine-tuned the policy recommendations they have been jointly developing as a preparatory work and presented them to external experts, who provided feedback and suggestions and positively valued their proposals, demonstrating that youth empowerment must be a key priority to build a more sustainable region.
