FORMED

Sardegna FORMED is a project aimed at enhancing the internationalization and the cultural enrichment of the Sardinia territory and in particular the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari, by strengthening and/or building from scratch relationships and lasting relations with North Africa. It was launched in 2015 thanks to the strong support of Professor Franco Rizzi, the UNIMED founder.

The general objective of Sardegna FORMED is to develop excellence in the Higher Education sector, improve the recognition of university studies and qualifications, train highly qualified young men and women and make them capable of responding to the challenges of globalization. Similarly, Sardegna FORMED aims to strengthen mutual cultural understanding in the Mediterranean area by promoting culture and education in such a conflicting historical moment.

To this purpose, Fondazione di Sardegna allocates funds to provide students from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria with mobility grants and scholarships that cover the whole course of study chosen by the students among the wide and diverse educational offer available at the University of Cagliari and the University of Sassari.

The project is jointly managed by UNIMED and the Fondazione di Sardegna and, in the last few years, involved the following institutions from the southern shore of the Mediterranean:
• Tunisia: University of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, University of Sfax, University of Sousse, University of Carthage, University of Kairouan
• Algeria: University of Algiers 1, University of Algiers 2
• Morocco: Mohammed V University of Rabat

The success rate of the project has always been very high, with over 90% of students who achieved the necessary credits foreseen by the programme and also showed significant advances in mastering the Italian language and in assimilating the Italian culture.
