Second Special Mobility in Girona for Tunisian professors on integrated management of water, agriculture and environmental resources

Thirteen Tunisian professors from the University of Sfax, Tunis El Manar and Carthage were in Girona, Spain, to participating from 14 to 20 July in the five-days Special Mobility Strand aimed at supporting and complementing the training of teachers on the integrated management of water, agriculture and environmental resources.

The Special Mobility Strand has been organised in the framework of the EU co-founded MAYA Project on Sustainable agro-ecosystem management and mitigation strategies in relation to climate change. The participants had the possibility to discuss with peers about the  teaching methods and application of the proposed methodologies to the Tunisian studies related to the three following modules: “Conjunctive use of surface water and ground water for irrigation supply”, “Ecological integrity of streams and wetlands in agricultural areas” of the MAYA project, “Water quality issues and protection strategies related to agricultural practices (nutrients and emergent pollutants)”.

The Programme foresaw not only classroom lessons and discussions but also field visit to the hydraulic tests for wastewater reuse under drip irrigation using different filtration systems at the Celrà wastewater plant, to the subsurface drip irrigated rice in Pals as well as a guided tour in the restored wetlands of the Pletera (Baix Ter, Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà).
